The big day had arrived, and it was time to launch. We officially started our trip, no longer filling in time. Our excitement was a little high after twelve months of thinking, eight months in Australia and nearly eleven weeks of delays.
We were prepared, packed and ready to go. Our first nights on the road were booked at Lake Maraboon, just outside of Emerald. It would be a decent driving day (~400km) and would take the best part of six hours.
Things came very unstuck 100km in, with an unscheduled roadside stop outside of Nebo. At this point, many other words threatened to overtake “Launch” as Word of the Day. Most of the possible alternatives contained only four letters. But given we eventually got back on the road and made our first night’s site as planned we stayed with the positivity of “Launch”. We are technically on holidays now…
