Albany is home to the National ANZAC Memorial. A fitting tribute given more than 40,000 men and women left Albany’s shores to fight the Great War.

The memorial is amazing. Its sits in a historical military precinct, full of old military buildings and equipment. The building was built brand new and is a great piece of architecture. The memorial is brilliant. It tells the ANZAC story through the eyes of 32 different servicemen. All real and reflective of their lived experience. The narrative method is so engaging and makes you curious.

It relies heavily on technology and this means the burden of reading is reduced. It kept the kids interested and genuinely learning. The display raised so many questions from the girls. We have no fear in being honest about the brutality and waste of this conflict.

The view from the ANZAC Centre. The last view of Australia seen by many who departed Albany.
