The massive distances in Australia make long drives inevitable. Towing a caravan makes every drive that little bit harder, longer and slower. Add some roads in poor condition, roadworks and a surprisingly large volume traffic and those long driving days are just taxing.
We had to get back to Mackay from Townsville. The van needed a service and we had decided not to break the return trip up with any nights in between. With just shy of 400km to be driven, it made for a long day in the car. We had done it plenty of times before, but it seemed were have not yet found our driving groove.
The kids decided to fill the time by frequently arguing about anything and everything. At least the caravan and car behaved. For the heaviest combination we’d ever towed, it towed better than expected. A small upside for what was otherwise a rather monotonous day.
