Having returned to Mackay and confirmed the dates for the final vehicle modifications it was a day for planning. We had a firm date on which we can truly start our adventure and it was time to start planning our first steps.
The goal for the first part of the trip was to move through western Queensland relatively quickly and head to the Northern Territory to explore there in the dry season (and cooler months). Abby had planned the entire western Queensland section before we found it impossible to get into Mount Isa.
In a case of poor planning – the Mount Isa Rodeo clashed with our planned arrival. No chance of getting a site there a week out during the rodeo. Time to replan, slow our first few stops and arrive in Mount Isa after the rodeo.
