We’d been pushing hard to get to Mount Isa and had driven past Mary Kathleen on our journey west. Mary Kathleen is a completely abandoned uranium mine and town. Everything in the town was moved away leaving only concrete slabs. The mine pit was blocked off and left to fill with water.

While not the greatest environmental outcome, it makes for a pretty cool tourist spot. Given we were back-tracking to see Lawn Hill, Christian was keen to show everyone this site he had visited before. While more popular than when he visited, its still amazing to see the abandoned township and brilliant blue water in the old mining pit.
