A river crossing made packhorses out of Abby and Christian. The crossing was relatively wide, relatively deep and relatively tricky. No bridges or causeways, just straight across the riverbed.

Unfortunately, the bridge had been destroyed in the last wet season, meaning any walks on the other side needed a creek crossing. The walks were just long enough, hot enough and hard enough that we needed proper walking gear.

The water was too deep for the kids to carry their own stuff across (over Hannah’s waist) so Abby and Christian had to carry the lot. Four bags, four sets of boots, four sets of clothes, food and none of it should really be wet. Packhorses indeed, but we made it safe and dry.
