After spending big on our amazing Top Didj experience we didn’t have the cash to spare on a boat cruise or kayak trip on Nitmiluk Gorge. It was up to our free leg power if we wanted to see the butterfiles or the gorge.

After reviewing the options we decided to chance a mountain bike ride to get to Butterfly Gorge. It would be too far and hot to walk, hopefully the bikes could get there faster. We set out very early and figured if it got to hard or dangerous wed turn back.

It was hard, there were a few crashes but we persevered. Abby was particularly impressive, a hidden talent emerged as she navigated the tough terrain on a commuter bike! All the pain was forgotten after we parked the bikes and walked into Butterfly Gorge.

Surrounded by butterflies (thousands of them) walking the trail to the water. A refreshing, private dip in the gorge was perfect before we had to head for home. The walk to the bikes was hot and most of the ride was downhill.

Despite the complaints and tears from the kids, there were no regrets.
