After getting a taste of the Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr, we spent a day exploring the rock art galleries at Nanguluwurr and Burrungkuy.
These galleries were amazing, with the longer walk to Nanguluwurr meaning we had it to ourselves. Nanguluwurr is also the home of the famous “ship” rock art, depicting an early interaction with Europeans.
Burrungkuy is far more accessible and therefore busy. Its art is still amazing, with parts of it focussed on dreamtime stories and Mimi (the fairy-like beings of Arnhem Land).
It was the beginning of our taste of indigenous culture. We have a lot to learn.
