We went snorkelling at Coral Bay. We followed the well-worn snorkel drift path only to find the coral bleached and dead.

It was still enjoyable, but the shock of the seeing the coral dead and sadness knowing the recovery time ahead really shook us. The fish were still around in numbers and variety, but the coral was algae covered and just a skeleton. There was even a type we’d not seen before and it was spectacular in this state, we cannot imagine what it would have been.

The small (very small) consolation was that this bleaching was a natural event, caused by coral spawning during unfavourable winds. Makes you realise just how much danger our reefs face with see warming.
