Just outside of Coober Pedy is a rare geological formation known as the breakaways. Uneven erosion has left a series of plateaus of various colours, shapes and sizes.

It’s renowned for its sunset and we went out early to both get a good spot. The breakaways come alive with the effects of the changing light. We were not disappointed. The formations varied from bright whites, to oranges, reds, yellows, purples and greys. The colours kept changing as the sun set and we all enjoyed the view from the top of our almost private viewpoint.
