Our last trip to Cape Hillsborough was not without its downside. Laura took a tumble (don’t play with your camera and walk) while walking. The camera was fine, one of those shock and water-proof models that did its job. Laura was not fine; she had a sore knee, which was cut and would develop some decent bruising. Her hand was also sore, but not the main concern. We invoked the “no hugs for stupidity” policy and continued on.
A few days later, everything had recovered except her hand as she was still unable to grip anything. After consulting the medical folk in the family, a trip to Emergency was required. The verdict was a possible broken bone in her thumb. A cast went on as a precaution for a week. Two days later we received a follow-up phone call from the hospital doctor, the radiologist had reported that she had an undisplaced scaphoid fracture. So on our return a week later, a purple cast with gold glitter went on. She was given instructions to return hospital in another three weeks.
The novelty of the cast had long worn off (no pools, restricted playgrounds and beaches). The trip would suffer another delay if the cast wasn’t removed in three weeks . Fortunately the next check was all clear, and the cast was removed. This little challenge was not going to delay us.
