Jim Jim Falls is one of the most beautiful and popular falls in Kakadu. It also happens to be one of the hardest to get to.
The road recommendation was for high clearance 4WD only, with drivers to expect corrugations and tight single track with soft sand sections. We’d bought ourselves some recovery boards for this track, but they were not even close to needed.
The degree of difficulty of the journey rewarded those who make it. They are worth both the drive and walk. Visiting so late in the dry season meant they had stopped flowing. This didn’t detract from the sheer size of the falls and the swimming hole below. The photos we took do it no justice. The complaints about the drive and walk ceased immediately on arrival.
