Our final day in the Flinders Ranges was spent visiting Wilpena Pound.
The Pound is named as the rock formations create a perfect bowl shape, with a single entry and exit point, like a prison. It was also completely different environment and being far wetter had completely different vegetation and flowing creeks. We walked the creek edge to the climb to the lookout, reading about the harsh realities faced by the early settlers and the displacement of the traditional owners.
Eventually we reached the climb to the lookout, giving a view across and into the Pound. It was almost like a giant meteor crater, with steep sides and a shallow bowl middle. The evidence of failed farming ventures was still evident but healing.
