Today we went into Cape le Grand National Park. Home to white sand beaches that squeak.

The most famous of all is Lucky Bay, home to a campground so popular it books out six months in advance. Spoiler alert, it’s crap. Packed full of campers and day trippers. Worst of all, they let you drive on the beach, so it’s full of cars. The sand is compacted, discoloured and certainly has no squeak.

We aborted that after about three minutes and headed back to the beautiful, 4WD free Hellfire Bay. The beach wasn’t busy, the sand was soft and white, the water was turquoise and you got that all important squeak. Exactly how a National Park should be.
