It happened! The much anticipated caravan has arrived. We had spent the last few weeks preparing as best we could without it; thinking about storage, space, bits we’d need and weight. We had gone round in circles at times but finally we could touch it.

As we had bought the caravan sight unseen from New Zealand, actually seeing it in the flesh was a big deal. Some very good advice (thanks Tullmack), research and our past experience meant the van made us smile. Our previous worries about space, storage and how to make it work quickly disappeared.

Our new home

We picked it up later than planned (15 July), but it still meant we could meet our timetable to depart Mackay in the first week of August. After eight weeks with Abby’s parents, we were in a rush to get it packed, weighed and ready to depart on a shakedown trip. We needed to give it a thorough test, rack up 1000km (for it’s service) before we could hit the road for good.

We spent the weekend showing the van off, packing, buying some last minute storage items and tinkering. It was then a case of packing what wasn’t making the trip so that Abby’s parents could have their house back. After spending a weekend packing, unpacking and repacking, Sunday night was the first night in our new home. We all slept in our new beds, parked the driveway at Abby’s parents.
